Destiny developer Bungie files trademark for new project, Matter
Bungie's fascination with single-word game titles will seemingly continue with its next project.
You may recall that Halo, and Destiny creator Bungie signed a big deal with Chinese publisher NetEase back in June.
The deal will see the studio receive over $100 million in funding which will allow it to create its next project. The name of said project may have been outed by a new trademark registration.
Bungie filed a trademark application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for Matter, which we assume is the studio's next big thing. The application was submitted very recently, last Friday in fact.
Matter is listed under sections 9, and 41 - for "computer game software", and "internet entertainment services", respectively. The trademark filing was also accompanied by what appears to be a logo - or at least an early version of it.
Of course, there's always the chance this is something completely separate from Bungie's next major project, but it's unlikely given how the developer typically operates. It's also possible Bungie is trademarking the game's working title just to be safe, and the final product may end up with a different name.
Whatever the case may be, we're likely a long way off from hearing about the game in any official capacity. There'll be plenty of Destiny to play until then.
