There are plenty of icy cold areas found in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Link is going to need to wrap up warm to survive there. In this Zelda Breath of the Wild cold guide, we'll be walking you through how to get the Warm Doublet in Breath of the Wild, so you can successfully venture into the colder climates of Hyrule.

How to Survive the Cold in Breath of the Wild
To survive cold weather in Breath of the Wild you'll need either cold-resistant clothing or food and elixirs that grant cold-resistance. Here's a list of cold-resistance clothing you can pick up in the game:
- Warm Doublet - more info below
- Ruby circlet - bought from the jewellery shop in Gerudo Town
- Snowquill set - purchased from Rito Village
If you want to make cold-resistant food, add spicy peppers to a dish. You can also combine certain insects with monster parts to make cold-resistant elixirs. The warm darner is a good pick here.
How to Get the Warm Doublet
The Warm Doublet is offered to you by the Old Man, but it comes at a price. By reading The Old Man's diary (found in the hut near the southern edge of the Great Plateau) you discover a partial recipe for a delicious and warming Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry.
The Old Man can only remember that it mixes raw meat, spicy pepper and one other ingredient. If you can figure out what the third ingredient is, the Warm Doublet is yours. Head elsewhere for a large list of the best recipes in Breath of the Wild.
Now you have the knowledge needed to conquer the cold areas found when tackling the trials in the Keh Namut Shrine and the Owa Daim Shrine. It's also worth getting as many rupees as possible and learning how to kill Guardians.
Thankfully all three ingredients are very easy to find. Here's how to find each one:
- Raw meat - from boar
- Hyrule Bass - from pond (use bomb to kill fish then go down and take)
- Spicy Pepper - growing near cold areas
With three ingredients in hand return to the Old Man's hut. Go to your inventory and hold the raw meat, Hyrule Bass and the Spicy Pepper. Return to the game, stand next to the cooking pot and you'll have to option to cook what you're holding. This will give you Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry. Speak to the Old Man and you'll get the Warm Doublet.
You can also purchase the Warm Doublet from Hateno village later on in the game. We recommend getting it from the Old Man for free though!
