Braid creator going into debt to finance The Witness
Braid creator Jonathan Blow has spent everything he earned from the indie hit and The Witness still isn't finished.
Braid earned Blow over millions of dollars, but he sank it back into The Witness, and the Myst-like puzzle adventure still needs more cash.
According to an interview feature on Engadget, Blow has had to borrow to continue development of The Witness, because Braid is no longer selling well enough to sustain his team.
"Braid still sells well on platforms that are thriving, but two of Braid's big platforms were the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, both of which are sunsetting at this point," Blow said.
"Not so many people are buying digital games there, so the Braid income is not nearly enough any more to fund the team. I have borrowed a bunch of money to finish The Witness. So I hope when it's done, some people buy the game."
The Witness has been announced for iOS, PC and PS4, but has not been dated. However, it has hit some important milestones recently and we have hope we'll see it this year.
"If there is such a thing as taking 'too long,' we have probably already done that," Blow said.
