Borderlands GOTY players are unable to play co-op, Gearbox working on a solution
Many Borderlands fans who had been looking forward to the release of the Game of the Year Edition remaster are unable to play with their friends.
Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition marks the first time the original game is made available on PS4, and Xbox One, so there's understandably a lot of demand from longtime fans and newcomers.
Borderlands is best played in co-op, of course, which is how many wanted to play the game upon getting it. Unfortunately, setting up game sessions has proven very difficult for many.
Reports on Reddit, as well as the official forums of failed attempts have been popping up online since the game launched. It's not clear exactly what causes sessions to fail, however.
For some, this happens as soon as the session starts, while others are unable to get into a friend's game to begin with. Replies on the forums initially suggested the typical list of troubleshooting steps such as making sure UPNP is on, as well as forwarding the necessary ports.
Players obviously aren't happy that the experience isn't seamless, especially since many can already play other games - including Borderlands 2 - online without problems.
But, it appears there may be more to the problem than a simple case of blocked ports. In a separate post, a forum moderator revealed that Gearbox is aware of these problems, and is "actively working on a solution."
In the meantime, players are encouraged to submit a support ticket as this will help developers lock in on a fix.
