Bloodstained's $5 million roguelike stretch goal to be replaced by randomizer
The roguelike mode promised for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will not be implemented and will instead be replaced by a randomizer.
According to a development update on the Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Kickstarter page, the code that was created early in the game’s development isn't compatible with roguelike gameplay especially the procedurally generated castle (thanks, Eurogamer).
One of the game's stretch goals, the $5 million one, will instead be replaced by a randomizer. How it will work, is it will be the "story campaign [players] are used to, but with a twist."
With randomizer, before starting a game, you will be able to choose from up to eight parameters which will be randomized. Examples include the "Items - Retain Method," in which items in chests will still spawn the same, but when found in chests they will be"mixed around." The other example given was “Total random” which means "anything can drop anywhere."
"The mode will ensure safeguards to ensure that items needed to complete the game will be obtainable, so you can’t softlock your progress," reads the update. "Once you make your selections, you can generate a seed that you can use for reference or share with someone else.
"In addition, a timer will track your progress through the game and display your completion time at the end of a run."
Randomizer will launch with Zangetsu update, with more details coming soon. The mode will be available free to all players.
Bloodstained was released in June last year for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
