Bloober delays Xbox Series X/S game The Medium until next year

Polish games company Bloober Team has delayed the launch of its upcoming horror title, The Medium.

In a post on Twitter, the studio said that The Medium would now be coming out on January 28, 2021, rather than the December 10 date that had previously been announced. This is something of a blow for Microsoft, as The Medium was one of the few titles available for the Xbox Series X/S this year.

Bloober said that this delay is due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as other games on the release schedule. Fellow Polish developer CD Projekt RED recently delayed its eagerly-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 until December 10, which has likely been part of the reason Bloober Team opted to bump its release.

"After much careful thought and consideration, today we have made the difficult decision to delay the launch of The Medium to January 28, 2021," the studio wrote.

"It wasn't an easy choice to make, but one made due to the Covid-19 situation in Poland, as well as the current schedule of other games on the market. Bloober Team remains committed to delivering our biggest, most ambitious, fear-inducing experience to date.

"The additional development time will allow us to add further polish, ensuring we deliver our innovative, genre-pushing vision of interactive psychological horror."

The Medium was announced for Xbox Series X and PC in May of this year. Since then, Bloober has shown off its "dual-reality" gameplay, going in-depth to explain what this means for players.

Bloober isn't the only developer trying to get out of the way of the massively anticipated Cyberpunk 2077. Grinding Gear Games recently bumped the release of Path of Exile's next update to avoid CD Projekt's blockbuster.
