Blizzard is not saying if Overwatch will be free-to-play and many more details
Having been announced just this past weekend at BlizzCon, Overwatch is already generating all sorts of questions and Blizzard is answering, well, some of them.
The game is still early in its development cycle, so naturally Blizzard is playing coy when asked some of the more pertinent questions.
Kotaku spoke to game director Jeff Kaplan about the game's financial model, if single player is on the cards, and much more.
"I don't think we would ever do a single-player campaign, because the way these characters work, they're cool when you combine them together. Some don't play well alone, either. Unless we built a campaign around supporting somebody else, a support character like Mercy probably wouldn't do well," said Kaplan when asked about a single player campaign.
Blizzard is not sure if the game will be free-to-play or not though, but they insist whatever model it ends up using, it has to be a "a fair deal" without people feeling "ripped off".
Which leads us into the next question of whether or not it will be selling character cosmetic items. "We're probably less believers in customizing abilities in this game, only because it's a game about heroes. Like, the Reaper does Shadow Walk. I don't think this is a game where you could swap Shadow Walk for, you know, grapple hook or something like that. But we really like character customization and you've seen it across other games. Probably expect something there," said Kaplan.
Blizzard is however planning on adding more characters to the roster.
Overwatch will enter beta in 2015, with no release date as of yet. The beta will have more content than the build shown at BlizzCon, and Blizzard is not talking about a console port just yet.
