Blizzard trademarks eSports service "Compete"

Blizzard has made a trademark suggesting it's keen to increase its eSports support services.

Although it doesn't necessarily mean such a platform is under construction, Blizzard has made a trademark for a new eSports service.

Called Compete, the registration is for "an online non-downloadable Internet-based system application featuring technology enabling users to organize and promote e-sports tournaments, to create and customize tournament brackets and ladders, track tournament progress, maintain related statistics, and post results".

Sounds pretty rad; it'd be great to gather people together quickly and easily for tournaments through a Battle.net-linked service.

Blizzard now has four eSports friendly properties on its roster: Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, World of Warcraft PvP and of course StarCraft, one of the most important games in eSports history. The upcoming Overwatch looks like it might fit the bill too, and you could even argue that Diablo 3's seasons could be adapted for eSports.
