BioWare issues workaround for Mass Effect 2 on PS3, patch coming soon

masseffect2

Earlier this week, Mass Effect 2 producer Jesse Houston asked players having save corruption issues with Mass Effect 2 to post their issues in the game's error discussion thread. This was so the team could find out where the problems were occuring and start working on a fix. Today, BioWare has issued a workaround while the patch is being worked on.

According to a post over on the BioWare forums, the issue PS3 players are experiencing is being caused by a memory fragmentation crash, and the developers hope to have the patch finalized by Friday so it can get verified and distributed by Sony "ASAP."

Here are the current patch notes:

  • Fixed a crash related to memory fragmentation. This fix will also resolve the crashing that corrupted Save Games.
  • Slightly improved load times and level streaming.
  • Added some telemetry to better improve future titles.
  • Updated some strings to fix spelling mistakes
  • Fixed the picture frame in Shepard’s Cabin to accurately reflect your love interest choices in Mass Effect: Genesis.
  • Fixed a rare crash in the PSN version in Shepard’s Cabin.

Until the patch is released, Houston suggests folks shut down and restart their game every few hours so they will "not encounter the corrupted save issue."
