Beyond: Two Souls - Cage wants "to challenge minds, not thumbs"
Quantic Dreams boss David Cage has said he's more focussed on "creating an emotional journey" with Beyond: Two Souls rather than allowing players to have "fun" at the expense of its story.
This means you can expect a similar experience to that of its previous release Heavy Rain rather.
"I don't want to challenge their thumbs, I want to challenge their minds," he said.
Speaking to EDGE, Cage made it clear that his aim is to "create something different".
"My goal is to surprise people, to give them something they want without knowing they want it. I want to create an emotional journey, a unique experience.
"I am not interested in giving them 'fun', I want to give them meaning; I don't want to challenge their thumbs, I want to challenge their minds."
He also said that the game - which follows the protagonist over a period of 15 years - will allow players to form a deep emotional connection with the character.
"Maybe this is irrelevant or just overly ambitious," he said. "Maybe this is not what most people out there actually want. But this is the goal I set myself with Beyond: to create something different."
The game is in development exclusive to PS3, and has no date yet.
