Today, Ubisoft held a live stream for the upcoming Beyond Good and Evil 2. The stream revealed some new gameplay footage and art, but kept many details underwraps in preparation for E3 2018.
Players who are curious about the game's connection to the first Beyond Good and Evil should know that the developers plan on answering the unanswered questions that left the first game open-ended for a sequel. It'll be interesting to see how that's done considering the sequel will have character creation and not as et protagonist. The world building will still apparently go into the lore building as Ubisoft is scaling way up for the sequel.
While details were sparse in the lead-up to E3, the devs behind Beyond Good and Evil 2 shared some details about the upcoming game now confirmed as a, "seamless action-adventure RPG that [players] can play solo or with... friends."
That makes sense considering for the sequel the player will be taking the role of a space pirate captain rather than a lone journalist. This new position comes with its own unique gameplay elements as well. For example, the characters players meet in Beyond Good and Evil 2's open world can be recruited into their ships and assigned specific roles. Each component or part of the ship requires a specialist and players, as the captain, can run the ship they want.
In that way, it's very much like a spaceship simulator, but as we see later on that's just one micro role in a much bigger game. Players can engage in massive ship-to-ship combat, or go down to a player level and engage in hand-to-hand combat. It's all very layered from what we can tell and it's too early to say how these moving parts will mesh with one another.
Other details from the stream are minor but interesting. Ubisoft is building out the sequel to be a massive open-world with connections to the game's lore established in the first Beyond Good and Evil. Also, instead of a camera like in the first game, players will use a spyglass with similar features as Jade's camera and more. This is to better align with the pirate theme.
