Bayonetta 2 named AbleGamers' 2014 Accessible Mainstream Game of the Year

Bayonetta 2 has been named AbleGamers' 2014 Accessible Mainstream Game of the Year.

According to the firm's staff of accessibility experts, players sent in suggestions for the GotY Award, and after choosing from a short list of eight games.

The short list consisted of: Hearthstone, Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, Tropico 5, Sims 4, Civilization: Beyond Earth, Always Sometimes Monsters, This War of Mine, and Bayonetta 2.

In the end, Bayonetta 2 was chose due to allowing players to choose from "a plethora of options with the WiiU GamePad, Pro Controller, the GamePad’s touch screen, or in any combination that is most comfortable for the player."

"This game demonstrates that accessibility can be implemented into a mainstream AAA game without harming any of the gameplay," said AbleGamers. "Popular titles such as Shadow of Mordor could easily implement one-button mode for those who need such accessibility while leaving a complicated controls for those who prefer those methods, and still award players with a top-notch game that is accessible to everyone.

"Bayonetta 2 is not a style of game that should be accessible, but Platinum Games took extra steps to make it that way, which is worth praise."

AbleGamers said the visual style of Bayonetta 2 also didn't "impede the enjoyment of the game for those with colorblindness," and the inclusion of a one-button combat mode "created an experience other character action titles should implement."
