New Battlefield: Hardline multiplayer modes have fast cars and hostage rescue

As well as unveiling the campaign, EA also showed off new multiplayer modes for Battlefield: Hardline during its gamescom press briefing. Check out the footage right here.

Two new modes were shown. The first was Hotwire, which tasks squads of players with tracking down certain vehicles while fending off rival teams. It looked fast and frantic and mostly vehicle-based.

More interesting is Rescue, which splits the game into two teams. The Police must infiltrate and retrieve hostages, while the other team tries to fight them off. It looked like a slightly tenser game mode, and not dissimilar to what we've seen of Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Siege. Some players can remain at a distance and pick off targets while other players go in for some close quarters action. Rescue features riot shields, as recently seen in Battlefield 4 DLC Dragon's Teeth.
