Battlefield 5 goes down for latest fix - here are the patch notes
You might have noticed Battlefield 5 has been briefly offline today. But the interference will be worth it if you’re wanting to take down tanks, or prevent sneaky escapes in the game’s battle royale mode, Firestorm.
The downtime began at 8am UTC on PC, at 9am UTC on PS4, and will soon hit Xbox One at 10am UTC. DICE is deploying a patch to tackle a few fixes that the last update missed.
The studio has made changes to a couple of weapons - namely the armour-piercing specialisation of the Boys AT, the formidable British anti-tank rifle. Turns out it wasn’t working properly when used against tanks, which is something of a critical design flaw. What’s more, the new Medic’s carbine, the Tromboncino, had its progress accidentally tied to that of the Commando Carbine, which was mucking up specialisations for certain players.
Over in Firestorm, DICE has fixed what they call the ‘Platform 9 and ¾’ issue - of players leaving the hangar early by glitching through the geometry. And parachute draw distance has been improved, so you’ll be able to more accurately work out how many other players are dropping in your area.
“We've now made it so that if some cheeky beggar quits whilst downed, their loot will now drop,” producer Jaqub Ajmal adds, “rather than exit the server with them.”
Crashing should be less frequent in spectator mode, too - though DICE didn’t get to the general stuttering issues players have reported lately. It’s a problem engineers are still working on as a matter of high priority.
Battlefield 5 got a new map last week, named Mercury - after the 1941 operation in Crete. It introduces rare asymmetry to the game, so is worth checking out.
