Battlefield 5 Company trailer showcases combat roles and customisation

EA has dropped a new Battlefield 5 trailer for Gamescom detailing how Company's work.

One of Battlefield 5's new features, Companies, has been explored in the latest trailer. Players can assemble a collection of soldiers, weapons, and vehicles, and fully customise their appearance. Soldiers can also be assigned unique combat roles that have their own gear, with more combat roles being unlocked as you progress.

Players will start off with Recon, specialising in spotting and stealth; Assault, which will have more versatility in engaging enemies; Medics, who will have "more ways to keep their squad alive"; and Support, which will be getting a new attrition and fortification system.

Each role has unique gear and abilities, while weapons and vehicles will have an upgrade tree of sorts that allow you to specialise them by choosing a particular path for their progression.

Cosmetic items, earned through gameplay, allow you to further customise your soldiers and weapons. As DICE stated earlier this week, vehicle customisation is also on the cards, but won't be available at launch.

We were treated to an action-packed trailer last week, in the run-up to Gamescom, that looked like it included a teaser for the title's battle royale mode, which is being developed by an unknown studio.

We also got confirmation of beta dates, which kicks off on September 6, while players who pre-order will get early access and can dive in on September 4.

Details about the battle royale mode have been thin on the ground, which may be why analysts are warning that Battlefield 5 "currently appears to potentially be headed for serious disappointment."

Analyst Doug Creutz recently revealed that the title's pre-orders are tracking “more than 85%” behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Battlefield 5 is set to release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 19.
