Big improvements coming to Battlefield 4's netcode & Rush mode soon
Battlefield 4 developer DICE has openly discussed a slew of incoming changes coming to the shooters multiplayer component son, including changes to the netcode, Rush mode and more.
It follows my blog in response to EA's Andrew Wilson, who dubbed the Battlefield 4 online launch "unacceptable," due to a host of issues from day one. My issue with Wilson's reply was that the rationale for all those bugs was pretty weak. Check out the blog and decide for yourself.
Over on the Battlefield blog, DICE's Vincent Vukovic stated that the game's community test environment has helped the team iron and identify several issues, and thanked players for taking part so far.
He added that improving the game's netcode was the team's biggest priority.
"Making improvements to the 'Netcode' in Battlefield 4 has been a top priority for us," he explained. "Some of the items we’ve been specifically looking at is how to decrease the feeling of getting killed when behind cover and getting killed without initially seeing a damage indicator. The improvements we did were released in June, and we’re looking at testing out additional fixes during the coming months."
Vukovic added that Battlefield 4's core gameplay will also be tweaked, and that changes will come into play relative to the shooter's incoming Dragon's Teeth expansion. Notably, the Ballistics Shield will be tweaked so that it cannot one-hit kill enemies, and that it can't deflect AP rounds.
Rush mode will also receive improvements, and DICE is running tests on maps Siege of Shanghai, Zavod 311 and Operation Locker. For starters, Commander has been removed by default in Rush, radar sweeps have been reduced around the attacker's base and map changes such as MCOM station placement and cover positions are being experimented with.
Finally, Vukovic listed areas that will be looked at in future. They are:
- General Weapon tweaks/balance
- Weapon Suppression tuning
- 3P Head-flinch dampening
- Visual recoil ADS tuning
- Vehicle tuning/balance
- Game modes: Rush, Continued tweaks to Obliteration Competitive and Conquest small
- HUD improvements and bug fixes
