Battleborn's marketplace will get microtransactions on June 16

One major difference between Battleborn and Overwatch was the former didn't offer real-world microtransactions. Well, according to a new blog post from 2K, that will change starting tomorrow. The June 16th update will expand Battleborn's Marketplace with premium, platinum currency and a suite of new cosmetic content.

The cosmetic content includes premium skins and taunts which - 2K is quick to point out - won't affect gameplay in any way. These premium items will also stand apart from skins and taunts already featured in the full game, as well as unlockable content from Battleborn's five DLC packs. 2K is also considering bank spaces, loadouts, credit earnings, and XP boosts for future Marketplace expansions.

Each new skin will cost 420 platinum, while taunts will set you back 230. As for how you get platinum, that requires buying a platinum pack from the PlayStation Network, Xbox Store, or Steam Wallet. Platinum pack prices are listed below:

  • $1.99 for 230 Platinum
  • $4.99 for 700 Platinum
  • $9.99 for 1625 Platinum
  • $19.99 for 3500 Platinum
  • $49.99 for 9300 Platinum

The only question left, I suppose, is whether you consider this premium content to be worthwhile. Here are some images of premium skins to help you decide for yourself.
