Batman: Arkham Origins: costumes will help you connect with the caped crusader

When Batman: Arkham Origins launches later this year it'll make available a wardrobe's worth of alternative Batman costumes as downloadable content. Warner Bros. hopes that these options will help players to connect with the Dark Knight.

Creative director Eric Holmes spoke to Polygon about their intentions. "Batman has been around for a long time, and people have their favorite variants of Batman," said Holmes. "It could be a particular narrative arc or a particular artist's look, or something like that, and we really wanted to offer people the option to be their Batman.

"It's visually refreshing, it's something we're very proud of," he added. "It really puts a very different feeling in it, if you're one of those many different incarnations of him."

This means that it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. There's an Adam West costume that Holmes says will being some "goofiness" to proceedings. The costumes offer some relief from the general po-faced nature of Batman's story without interrupting the narrative.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is due to launch October 25 on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC.
