Barbie's chosen career for 2016 is game development
There's a new game developer in town, and her name is Barbie.
Each year, the doll takes on a new specialization. The woman has over "150 careers on her resume," spanning from registered nurse to rock star, veterinarian to CEO, pilot to presidentail candidate and everything in between.
This year, her chosen field is game development. Toy maker Mattel announced the doll would arrive in stores this summer.
As you can see in the image above, she sports knock 'em dead red hair, matching glasses, skinny jeans and what appear to be lace-up deck tennies.
Barbie also has a laptop, but we're unsure whether that blue pillar comes with her or not. Kids may have to just set it on a Barbie table or something. Imagination is key after all.
As Polygon reports, this isn't Barbie's first foray into the tech field. In 2010, the picture book "Barbie I Can Be a Computer Engineer" was published.
In it Barbie had an idea for a video game, but since she couldn't make it herself, she enlisted the help of Steven and Brian as she focused on design ideas.
The book was pulled by Mattel after complaints surfaced in late 2014 over Barbie's interactions in the book. Apparently, she wasn't the computer engineer she was made out to be by the title as she couldn't code.
Mattel said going forward it would make sure girls who played with Barbie were "empowered to understand that anything is possible and believe they live in a world without limits."
All that aside, she is a game developer this year, and hopefully she'll develop a really awesome RPG with dragons. We like dragons.
