Atlus to continue Demon's Souls server support into 2012

With spiritual successor Dark Souls gearing up for a sequel from Namco Bandai Games, Atlus USA have confirmed that they'll be continuing to operate the servers for hardcore action RPG Demon's Souls into 2012.

The company had previously only promised to keep the servers operational until this October - but they've now at least promised albeit vaguely that the servers will remain online for at least part of 2012.

While Demon's Souls can be played in full without any real need to connect to the online servers a good chunk of the game's atmosphere comes from being able to read notes left by other players before they died in horrifying circumstances and seeing their ghostly forms appear to learn more about what happened - and hopefully help to save yourself in the process.

Atlus also noted that Demon's Souls now as an MSRP of $19.99 - making it a pretty cheap and awesome option if you've never tried it before. It's quite clear they're hoping to piggyback some extra sales of Namco Bandai's heavy push on Dark Souls, the unofficial sequel to the title.

Demon's Souls is out now for PS3, while Dark Souls arrives in the West in the first week of October. Thanks, Joystiq.
