Atlas is a 40,000 players pirate MMO from the creators of Ark: Survival Evolved

Atlas is a new game from some of the developers behind Ark: Survival Evolved.

Created by Grapeshot Games, a new studio founded by the creators of Ark: Survival Evolved, Atlas is a first-person (also playable in third-person) pirate-themed survival MMO with an ambitious scale.

The developer boasts over 40,000 players in the same world, all exploring it simultaneously. Grapeshot aims to create massive-scale battles and a living world, which is where the scale comes in. Atlas features exploration gameplay on land, as well as sea combat and ship-to-ship encounters.

You'll be able to build your own ship, recruit other players and AI, and travel to the world's different biomes in search for treasure and resources. Atlas supports PvE as well as PvP, where you'll be able to lay claim to other players' ships and whatever else you can get your hands on.

The press release mentions other MMORPG staples like varied character classes, skills and traits, and room for players to grow - which also affects how they look, from visuals like hair and beards to actual ageing.

You'll be able to see it for yourself when Atlas hits Steam Early Access on December 13. The game will launch at $25 (down from $30), and Grapeshot is planning an Xbox Game Preview release early in 2019.
