Nintendo Switch-exclusive Astral Chain charts at Number One in UK

Astral Chain is the best-selling physical game in the UK this week.

The Nintendo Switch exclusive - which released last week to positive reviews - is the sixth Switch game to top the charts this year. This doesn't include digital sales as Nintendo doesn't make its download stats public.

Astral Chain sold more physical copies than its multiplatform competitors, but not by much. There's about 1,500 in boxed sales between first and fourth place. Coming in at second is racing game Wreckfest, followed by Supermassive Games' Man of Medan, and Remedy Entertainment's Control.

This is the first game from PlatinumGames to go to number one on the UK charts, and the second biggest new IP release since the 2010 launch of Bayonetta. Before Astral Chain, the studio's highest charting release was 2013's Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance which hit the number two spot.

Its Metareview score tells another story, however. Astral Chain is currently being review-bombed on the review aggregate website, with over a thousand of negative user scores criticizing its combat, framerate, and the fact that it is exclusive to Switch.

You can check out our review of Astral Chain right here, which describes the game as taking " a while to get going, but it becomes a charming, thrilling experience that borrows much from other PlatinumGames titles while being something special all of its own."
