Assassin's Creed 3 will contain plenty of history and authentic vocabulary

Assassin's Creed 3 lead designer Steven Masters has reiterated that the game won't be too "America rah rah rah" or whatever vernacular the kids are using these days. However, it will contain plenty of history and authentic vocabulary such as the use of the word bellend.

Speaking with PCGamesN, Masters said not to worry: the game isn't going to be all "America, f**k yeah," as the Revolution is more of "a backdrop." The fight is between the Assassins and Templars, after all.

"Connor is kind of an outsider from all cultures here, he's half Mohawk, half British, so he doesn't really fit within his own society, he brings this outsider's perspective to all of these different conflicts," said Masters. "We're not bombastically saying, you know, 'go America go!'.

"The Revolution is a coincidence of the story, the real fight is to remove the oppression of the Templars."

As far as terminology is concerned, the development team did plenty of research into "slang and insults from the era," and it also researched the various accents one would have found in the colonies during the period.

"We actually studied the census data on the makeup of the civilian population in Boston at the time," said Masters. "So we knew there were a certain amount of English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Dutch people, and we actually tried to mix all of that into the audio.

"The question of what the English accent sounded like at that time - it's really hard to say. We have the same thing in Quebec with the French accent, they say that Quebec French is closer to original French than modern French. But the reality is that both branched at the same time, right?

"So it's difficult to say which accent is a more accurate representation. We've no way of backing up the assertion."

This means the British accents may sound like they do today, but we seriously doubt it will suspend player disbelief. Well, at least it won't for Americans. You all sound alike to us anyway. That's a joke, obviously.

Assassin's Creed 3 lands at retail at the end of the month and information on the game's Season Pass and DLC can be found here.
