Share your controller via Mixer and more with new April Xbox Update

The April Xbox update has started rolling out, bringing with it a host of new features. These include “advanced video modes” that smooth out your display, improvements to clubs and community tournaments, and the option to “share controller” with one of you viewers on Mixer.

All of the new features should be available to “Xbox One owners around the world over the next few days”.

The full list of changes is as follows:

• Added Auto Low Latency mode: If your TV has a “low latency” or “game mode”, your Xbox One will be able to communicate that you’re playing a game to the device and switch modes accordingly. This should help to reduce any input lag you experience while you’re playing
• Added support for variable refresh rate: If you’ve got an AMD Freesync or Freesync 2 display, this setting will allow your devices to try and minimize any stuttering you might experience
• Added support for 2560x1440 resolution
• Added option to “share controller”: This lets you share control of your game will someone watching your stream on Microsoft’s streaming platform, Mixer. The viewer will be able to plug an actual controller into their PC to play, or use a virtual one displayed in their browser
• Added option to start Mixer broadcast anywhere on Xbox One and a pause animation if you switch games or go to the dashboard
• Added ability to share screenshots directly to Twitter
• Opened option to switch between light and dark themes to everyone, not just Xbox Insiders
• Added a new high-contrast theme
• Improvements to the Xbox Narrator, including ability to adjust volume independently of system volume
• Improved ability to balance in-game audio and streamed music during gameplay
• Added spatial audio to Xbox One dashboard, so that on-screen actions more accurately map to surround sound
• Updated Edge browser
• Anyone can now create community tournaments, not just Club admins
• Added new filters to Club feeds
• New powers for Club admins to filter invitation requests
• Some users will also see experimental new features
