Apple nearly bought Bungie, says former Bungie lead
You would cry too if it happened to you.
Steve Jobs turned small, mostly non-threatening Incredible Hulk over Microsoft's then-surprise purchase of Bungie, but apparently, that's not the whole story. Speaking with Develop, former Bungie project lead Tuncer Deniz painted the rest of the picture.
At the time, Bungie's bank account was looking ghostly pale - far from the green-packed, immensely healthy creature we know today. As a result, the developer got in touch with Apple, asking if the empire based on Macs that's not McDonald's would be interested in making a purchase.
“Schiller asked Steve [Jobs], who said no,” Deniz said. “[But] after a week, Steve said yes. Schiller calls Bungie, but Bungie had already consummated the deal with Microsoft."
So basically, too little, too late. Granted, given the circumstances, we'd say Apple still did pretty well for itself in the long run. Sure, Jobs might have cried at the time, but he's definitely having the last laugh today.
