Apple announces over 15 billion apps sold to over 200 million users

Apple has announced 15 billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store by the more than 200 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users worldwide.

The store offers over 425,000 apps, and over 100,000 of those have been created for iPad alone. Apple has paid developers over $2.5 billion to date.

Granted, some of these apps aren't gaming-related, but there are tons of games available in the store, one of which is Infinity Blade from Chair and Epic, which seems to have done rather well.

"iPad provides us with an unparalleled mobile device for creating gorgeous, immersive games," said Epic VP and co-founder Mark Rein in the press release. "Infinity Blade has been a runaway hit with customers around the world and we couldn't be more excited about our success on iOS devices."

Apps are available in 20 categories, including games, business, news, education, sports, health, reference and travel.
