Dataminers uncover possible flamethrower, remote turrets, NPCs coming to Apex Legends

Twitter dataminers look to have unearthed a host of unreleased content currently in development for Apex Legends: including new weapons like a flamethrower and remote turrets, as well as both hostile and friendly NPCs.

Apex Legends might be the hottest new thing on the Battle Royale circuit, but it remains to be seen whether Respawn Entertainment can keep up with the break-neck pace of updates and new features we see from some of their competitors.

Apex Legends Flamethrower & Remote Turrets

It’s unclear whether these features will be part of the reportedly imminent Battle Pass, or standalone like the recent addition of the Havoc weapon.

The account @RealApexLeaks shared the discoveries, which include references in Apex’s code to a flamethrower status effect.

There’s less info about the remote turret, with the files only mentioning its existence, rather than anything it’ll do in-game.

Apex Legends NPCs

Perhaps more interesting however, is a different find detailing possible new NPCs that could be added to Apex Legends.

The files show various complex actions like scaling walls and attacking enemies, which could suggest that Respawn intends to add AI teammates to the game. It’d be tough to balance them to not be massively over or under-powered if you could just choose to queue with them though, so if they do end up being on your team from the start of a match, it’s more likely that they’ll fill in for disconnected players.

Another interesting read is that they’ll almost function like loot, and you’ll be able to find and recruit them. Or they could be special in-game vendors that you can swap resources with for new items.

Either way, it’d be a massive shake-up to the formula - creating new points-of-interest on the already varied map, or unlocking the potential for big power-plays.
