The Apex Legends ban hammer is coming down on PC crashing issues and cheaters
Respawn is not only laying the ban hammer down on crash issues with Apex Legends, but cheaters too.
Respawn Entertainment announced this weekend it has banned over 355,000 cheaters on PC since Apex Legends released.
According to the developer, the Easy-Anti-Cheat service has proven a good tool to detect cheaters, but the work is far from over.
"The fight against cheaters is an ongoing war that we’ll need to continue to adapt to and be very vigilant about fighting," said community manager Jay Frechette.
"We take cheating very seriously and care deeply about the health of Apex Legends for all players.
"We are [also] very aware of the cases of players spamming during character select and the drop and then disconnecting shortly after. We’re keeping a lot of our strategy close to the chest so offenders don’t have time to build workarounds before we implement changes.
"Solutions won’t happen right away but we’re on it."
Apex Legends players can expect further improvements to be made in the detection process. Plans are in place to "scale up" the anti-cheat team, and to add a report feature on PC. The latter will make it easier to report cheaters while in-game.
Along with good news regarding zero tolerance for cheaters, the studio is also working on issues with crashing on PC.
Like Nvidia before it, AMD will visit the studio next week and work with the team to improve stability and performance on PC.
In the next client patch on PC, some of the known crashes will be addressed, but not all crashes have been nailed down. In Season 1, the team will implement an improved reporting system to help identify further issues in this regard.
You can also expect hero balance changes, and hitbox updates when Season 1 drops as well.
The community update also touched upon the possibility of a reconnect option. While the studio understands the feature is something players want, it won't be implemented any time soon as such a feature could potentially be abused.
Once we know more about Season 1 and its contents, we'll let you know.
