Bioware's bungle over Anthem's inflated loot drop rates has players up in arms over hotfix

Anthem's day one patch inadvertently hiked up the loot drop rate, but was quickly hotfixed. Players are now complaining that the grind is too slow.

Bioware's Ben Irving took to Reddit over the weekend after Anthem players accused the studio of a stealth nerf to loot drop rates. He explained that the drop rate had increased as a "side effect" of the day one patch, which the devs hotfixed 11 hours later. But the change has left the community frustrated with the game.

One Reddit thread has a number of commenters saying the adjustment has caused them to stop playing, and unsubscribe from EA Origin. The general consensus is that gameplay just isn't as fun anymore.

Another thread features the OP using the magic of maths to make their argument.

"Even with a drop rate 10 times the previously inflated one you wouldn’t be 'fully geared' in a thousand hours. Do you have any idea the variety in inscription rolls? Each with their own ridiculous ranges (like 1%-250% increases). Do you have any idea of the astronomical math behind being perfectly geared?"

We don't, but u/EpicQuote forges ahead to give us one.

"I’ll show you an example of just the base 54 inscriptions and (falsely) assuming they all had zero variation instead of individually having hundreds in some cases.

"With 54 different inscriptions for 4 slots, that’s 316,251 variations just for a single item. Now factor in the 11 equipment slots. That’s 3,478,761 legendary items before hitting perfect gear if each inscription had no variation."

Similarities are being drawn between the game and the problems that The Division had, before Massive released patch 1.4 and turned things around.

There are tons of threads popping up on the drop rate, and suffice to say, Bioware hasn't won anyone over with its hotfix.

Despite being quick to reassure players that there was no stealth nerf, the studio hasn't weighed in on the complaints yet, or whether it plans to change the drop rates based on player feedback.

A few days ago, Bioware released a 90-day roadmap for Anthem with a timeline for Guilds, Legendary Missions, and more, which had been updated with extra details on Act 1: Echoes of Reality.
