Anthem: watch a max level, endgame mission in action

If you want to see what Anthem looks like once you hit the level cap, we've got you covered.

It's fair to say that Anthem has had its ups and downs here on VG247. We were a little down on it the first time we saw it, then ecstatic about it the first time we played it. After a fresh hands-on with a near-final version of the game, we've ended up landing somewhere in the middle: impressed with many aspects of the game, but still unconvinced as to what sets this new loot-shooter from BioWare apart from its rivals in a fairly crowded little sub-genre that crosses over shooters and action RPGs.

Last week's hands-on was focused on the early game, those first few hours all players will experience when they boot up the game for the first time. Today, we've got a new video for you that's based around content that not all players will end up seeing: a high end late-game mission with a full party of four whose Javelin mechs are boosted to level 30, the maximum level of the launch version of Anthem.

In the video, you can watch most of the mission. Some of the more humdrum tasks of finding certain things and returning them to certain places to unlock doors and progress the mission have been cut out, but it's a good opportunity to hear me talk a little about my impressions of the game in more depth than in last week's preview before letting a commentary-free look at a run of the boss play out.

It's an interesting choice of level, too. This is the same boss that BioWare used to first demo the game at E3, so it's a good glimpse at what that mission looks like when it's being played by actual real, normal people - people stumbling around with some elements of the game since we're all still new to it, and crucially people who haven't rehearsed the demo a hundred times before playing it.

Anthem is out in a matter of weeks - though exactly when depends on a few different factors, as EA has been mercilessly lampooned for. Check back with us on VG247 - we'll have loads more coverage on Anthem to come, including a review, some videos and guides as the game releases and grows.
