Anomaly team's next project takes a very different view of warfare
Anomaly developer 11 bit Studios is doing something quite different with its next game, This War of Mine.
As you'll probably pick up from the trailer below, This War of Mine is a rather more realistic perspective of warfare than we usually see in video games. It's quite hard to be serious about the grim realities of combat when you're giving the player points for mowing down facless grunts, so 11 bit Studios elected to make a game about what it's like to be a civilian in a warzone.
Described as a "dark survival game", This War of Mine has a group of players struggling to stay alive. During the day, snipers keep you penned up, where they'll craft items, upgrade their shelter, feed and heal residents and trade. At night, players venture out to look for supplies. Choices will be consequential.
"This can happen in your city, in your country," lead designer Michal Drozdowski said.
"While designing a new game, we came across an article that described how one man survived in a besieged city. We learned about his hardships and the horror of that experience. We decided to work around this idea and make something real, something that moves people and make them think for a second. It's about time that games, just like any other art form, start talking about important things."
This War of Mine is expected on mobile and PC, but has not been dated. Check out its website for more information.
