Android App Player for Mac makes public alpha debut

BlueStacks has announced that the Mac version of the company's Android App Player is now available as a public alpha, allowing Mac users to run Android Apps on OS X for the first time.

The public alpha is available to download now from the BlueStacks website at no charge. The first release features 17 apps from the likes of HandyGames, Creative Mobile and Pulse, with the next update "scheduled to expand things even more".

BlueStacks CEO Rosen Sharma states that the software's release will "open the Apple ecosystem, which has traditionally been closed". Additionally Sharma also states that the software will combat the "lack of tablet applications" available for Android, by giving developers "an incentive to build hi-res apps to work on the resolutions like retina displays on the new mac for example".

Powered by the company's patent-pending LayercakeTM technology, the Mac version follows the release of the PC version in March of this year.
