Amiibo news: more on Twilight Princess HD functionality, new amiibo in March

Might want to grab a cup of tea, or whatever your preferred poison may be, because the amiibo information herein is rather extensive.

We've broken it down for you in sections to make it a bit easier.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

As previously reported, the Wolf Link amiibo is included in every physical version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. This is the only "current" way to acquire the figurine. With wording such as this, it sounds as though the amiibo will sold individually later down the road.

When Wolf Link is tapped on the Wii U GamePad, it opens the Cave of Shadows which is a bonus dungeon in the game.

After completing the Cave of Shadows, players can save their remaining hearts to the Wolf Link amiibo, and then use those hearts inside the Cave of Shadows to replenish life energy.

After conquering the cave, players can save a record of their remaining hearts to the Wolf Link amiibo and attempt to beat their score at any time.

Some of the data stored on the Wolf Link amiibo figure can also be used with upcoming The Legend of Zelda Wii U, which launches this year. More details about this functionality will be revealed in the future.

Other amiibo figures in the Super Smash Bros. series like Link, Toon Link, Zelda, Sheik and Ganondorf also work with Twilight Princess HD.

As previously reported, Link or Toon Link amiibo will replenish their arrows. Zelda or Sheik will refill the player’s hearts, and tapping the Ganondorf figure will actually make Link take double the damage.

Translations from Famitsu leaks earlier this week confused a few people on how Ganondorf will work in the game. This includes us. So, he does NOT cause double damage to enemies - but to Link. Why one would use him then is anyone's guess unless they want a challenge.

The physical version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD launches on March 4 at a suggested retail price of $59.99 or your regional equivalent.

Pokemon and Star Fox Zero

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Pokemon, some of the Pokemon amiibo will be made available again at select retailers.

Nintendo said to keep and eye out for Charizard, Jigglypuff, Greninja and Lucario which will sit alongside Pikachu on store shelves. Or on the same digital retail page, we imagine.

Star Fox Zero, which launches on April 22 for Wii U, will feature amiibo compatibility, but more details on this will be revealed at a later time, according to Nintendo.
