With Sony's PlayStation 4 ahead in sales and the Nintendo Switch coming up from behind rather quickly, Microsoft's Xbox One is in a hard place. Is Scorpio the herald of Xbox's return to the competition?
Here's a breakdown of what we saw.
Xbox One X
We finally know what Project Scorpio is called: Xbox One X. The upgraded Xbox One is coming worldwide on November 7, 2017. Enough power for 4K gaming, 4K UHD Blu-Ray support, with faster load times and enhanced visual fidelity for even non-4K games via supersampling. All in the smallest Xbox ever. Xbox One X will cost $499.
Forza Motorsport 7
Of course, Microsoft showed the Xbox One X off with Forza Motorsport 7. Racing games are always a great way to show off improved console graphics and Forza Motorsport 7 is no different. Real-world course, reproduced beautifully in 4K, with dynamic weather and more. Forza Motorsport 7 launches on Windows 10 and Xbox One on October 3.

Assassin's Creed Origins
Ubisoft showed off the latest Assassin's Creed. Origins will feature Ba Yek, the last of the Magi. Think of him as an ancient sheriff, who will also be the man to become the first assassin. The gameplay demo showed Ba Yek returning to his hometown of Siwa. Eagle Vision actually comes through the eyes of an eagle, with Assassin's Creed taking on some aspects of Splinter Cell, like target marking. A new combat system with parrying recalls some recent third-person action games. Assassin's Creed Origins also seems to feature a leveling system and extensive gear, with Ba Yek taking a bow from a downed foe.
Assassin's Creed Origins will launch on October 27, 2017.
