Alien: Blackout announced, is a mobile game

Before the Game Awards, rumours were swirling about a new game called Alien: Blackout. Turns out it was real.

Rather than being a sequel to Alien Isolation, it was reported to be a squad-based shooter of some sort. It sounded a bit like Destiny, but Alien. Good news: it’s not that. More good news: Amanda Ripley is back. Bad news: it’s a mobile game.

Now, we're not averse to mobile games over here at VG247. We like playing games on the move. But it does suck a bit that this isn’t a proper follow up to the excellent Alien Isolation.

Alien: Blackout is a survival horror mobile game that has you explore a Weyland-Yutani space station while avoiding xenomorphs. It’s coming to iOS and Android and is developed by FoxNext Games, D3 Go!, and Rival Games, as reported by Variety.

Here’s the official blurb:

“The terror of Alien is brought to life in ‘Alien: Blackout.’ Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew. Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices. Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.

“Survive seven fear-inducing levels by remotely guiding Amanda Ripley’s crew through increasingly challenging tasks using only the station’s emergency systems. The uncertainty and unpredictability of both the alien and her crew can impose total defeat for Amanda and the entire station.”

Using a map, motion sensors, and other tools, you’re tasked with getting yourself and your crew to safety before the power supply runs out. Watch that phone battery as well, eh?
