After eight years it's not surprising Persona 5 has an all-new voice cast
Persona 5 won't bring back the English voice actors you remember from past games.
Persona 5 has an all-new English voice cast, Atlus USA has announced.
That means you won't be hearing the familiar tones of Troy Baker and Laura Bailey - but long-time Persona series US lead Yu Namba is acting as recording supervisor, so there should be a feeling of continuity.
"This is a completely new cast of characters, so we started with a blank slate in bringing life to them with our stellar cast of voice actors," Namba said of Persona 5.
"It’s hard saying goodbye to the cast of previous Persona games, but we hope to bring an entirely new tone with a new set of actors for this game."
Or maybe no continuity, then, but since it's been eight years since the last core Persona game maybe you don't care. Anyway, Atlus has revealed a partial list of cast members, including Xander Mobus as the protagonist, whom you of course will name (go with "Protag").
A quick Google shows Mobus featured in Shin Megami Tensei 4: Apocalypse and several other JRPGs, and he's one of the alternate voices in the new Skylanders, but his best-known role is probably as the announcer (or Master Hand) in Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Wii U. Well, well. See him talk about his role in Persona 5 below:
Here's the Persona 5 cast list as revealed so far. Persona 5 launches in February for PS4.
- Xander Mobus as the protagonist
- Cassandra Morris as Morgana
- Max Mittelman as Ryuji Sakamoto
