The first Alpha demo for Nioh was released in late April, and during the ten days it was available, it was downloaded over 850,000 times.

An online survey provided to those who tried the demo helped provide feedback to the developers resulting in improvements made to gameplay.

Nioh's second downloadable demo will be available for download through the PlayStation Store August 23 through September 6.

More of the gameplay from the Alpha will be present alongside a new dojo stage featuring a training session. Players will also be able to "explore a yet to be announced stage."

A selection of new Axes, Hammers, Katana and Spears will also be made available.

Originally in development for PlayStation 3 and revealed during E3 2005, Nioh is based on Akira Kurosawa’s previously lost script Oni.

News on the title went quiet after a TGS 2006 showing, with little to no information available as of 2009.  In 2010, Koei Tecmo announced Team Ninja was involved in the game's development and it would be released in 2016.

Nioh takes place in 16th century Japan and stars a blond samurai warrior who is trying to fulfill his destiny. It is a PS4 exclusive.
