A lost Sonic game has been found and emulated

An obscure and rare piece of Sonic the Hedgehog history has been found in a Spanish mall.

Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car is a 1991 Japanese arcade game for children, in which they steer a police car through traffic, obeying the road laws and battling Eggman. It's a good reminder of simpler times for Sonic.

The folks at Sonic Retro are reporting that the game is coming to MAME emulation, after the team from Spanish website Sonic Paradise found and acquired the machine. They plan on dumping the data from the machine online, meaning that Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car will be accessible to anyone (albeit without the original wheel) after the next MAME update.

All in all, it's a very basic game - you can't really win or lose - but it's an interesting piece of nostalgia, and the first Sonic game where the eponymous hedgehog had a voice.
