50 3D-enabled titled being made for PS3, says SCEE 3D boss

SCEE 3D chief Mick Hocking has told Develop that at least 50 3D-enabled games are currently in development for PS3, 20 of which are internal at Sony.

"We’re applying 3D to more than 20 internal games at Sony," he said ahead of his keynote speech on the tech at Develop Liverpool later this week.

"It’s a very positive thing to see the great level of interest in 3D from our development studios."

Hocking added: "Overall we have more than fifty titles currently being converted into 3D, and this number is growing fast.

"Some of them are massive names. That’s a really, really good sign that the industry is behind our unique message that 3D is a key element in the future of home consoles."

Sony has pushed hard into the 3D space this year, with the tech enabled for PS3 back in the summer.

Many of Sony's big hitters for the remainder of the year and 2011 will support the tech, including GT5, Killzone 3, Motorstorm: Apocalypse and SOCOM 4.

Future 3D plans may include the console's Video Delivery Service and its social platform, PlayStation Home, according to comments made by Hocking, speaking to VG247 at gamescom in August.

A PSP2 with 3D tech a la 3DS, however, seems very unlikely, as was glassless 3D for PS3, he told us in Cologne.
