3DS firmware update adds save transfer tool

US 3DS owners can now transfer saves from retail games to the downloadable version, allowing you to escape the world of cartridges altogether should you so desire.

The new save transfer tool was added in an update issued via the US Nintendo Network overnight, according to Siliconera.

It's important to note that while you can bring saves from packaged games to the downloadable version, you can't go in reverse.

The update added one other major change - you can now just close your console while using the Nintendo eShop, and downloads will proceed while the console is in sleep mode.

No word yet on that MiiVerse update, worst luck.
