38 Studios: "The state wants answers about what happened"
Rhode Island's new charwoman of the House Committee on Oversight may issue subpeonas to get to the truth of what happened between the state and shuttered developer 38 Studios.
Newly-appointed representative Karen MacBeth said she feels an obligation to issue subpoenas.
"I would look to bring anybody that I think can give us answers. The state wants answers about what happened. I think it's my duty to get answers now," MacBeth said, as quoted by the Associated Press.
"This isn't about a witch hunt," she added.
Rhode Island lent a whopping $75 million to 38 Studios to attract the developer to the region, and was left carrying the can when the company folded.
It elected to honour its debts, although it has begun legislation to protect it from other costs, but initiated a lawsuit against 38 Studios staff and various financial advisors who recommended the loan.
The SEC has previously issued subpoenas as part of ongoing investigations and settlements.
38 Studios was responsible for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and MMO Project Copernicus, which failed to find a buyer at auction.
Thanks, Polygon.
