Warframe will get cross-play and cross-save later this year

Digital Extremes has announced that Warframe will be getting cross-play and cross-save at some point later this year.

This weekend we saw Digital Extremes' Warframe fan event, TennoCon 2021, take place, and the developer has confirmed that Warframe players will be able to cross-play and cross-save later this year.

There's no concrete release date set for cross-play and cross-save yet, but the studio reckons that players will be able to play with other Warframe users across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One before the end of 2021.

"Community is incredibly important to us," Sheldon Carter, chief operating officer at Digital Extremes, said during the livestream. "Opening up cross-play and cross-save is just one of many more efforts we'll take on to bring more players together including extending Warframe's fast, fluid, action combat experience to other global gaming platforms."

As of the game's next expansion, The New War, all platforms will be updated at the same time, so the console versions and PC version of the game will be in step with each other.

Carter mentioned that there had been issues with negotiating crossplay with the platform holders in the past, but the developer has clearly managed to unknot the famously thorny issue.

The studio also announced that a mobile version of the game is in development, though very little information was shared about this.
