Death Stranding Director’s Cut brings expanded combat and new content to PS5 in September
We now know exactly what to expect from Death Stranding Director’s Cut.
During Thursday's Sony State of Play livestream, we got treated to comprehensive new trailer for Death Stranding Director’s Cut. The expanded version of Hideo Kojima's game arrives September 24 on PS5.
Announced in June, Death Stranding Director's Cut is a remastered version of the 2019 game that comes with support for the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The new version also makes use of the PS5's SSD to speed up load times, as well as its 3D audio capabilities for a more immersive experience.
PS5 players will get to pick from two picture modes: one that favours performance, targeting 60fps at upscaled 4K, and another with native 4K - and both support HDR. Existing owners of the PS4 version can upgrade to the Director's Cut Digital Deluxe Edition for $10. Save files will transfer between PS4 and PS5.
As for what's actually new in the Director's Cut, you can expect a host of new content and updated gameplay mechanics. For instance, shooting looks to have been expanded considerably, with new weapons and equipment, as well as an update to shooting and melee mechanics. You'll also find a shooting range to test out all the new toys.
There are new missions, new fights, and new areas to explore - expanding the game's storylines. But perhaps the most exciting additions are the new delivery methods, which now include a cargo catapult, an independent support skeleton that follows you, a buddy bot, and jump ramps you can build to cross gaps.
And, because it wouldn't be an open-world game without a superfluous racing mode, the Director's Cut is adding just that in the form of the Fragile Circuit racing mode. The Director's Cut also brings a few tweaks to the UI, and the game's online features, including a feature called Friend Play that Kojima Productions will detail at a later date.
