Returnal and Resogun maker Housemarque acquired by Sony
Housemarque is now officially a PlayStation Studio.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced today that it has acquired Finnish studio Housemarque - mostly known for Resogun, and PS5 exclusive Returnal - for an undisclosed sum.
Housemarque is now PlayStation Studios' 13th fully-owned studio, joining the ranks of Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, and more recently Insomniac Games. The studio's current management team will continue to lead it, aided by PlayStation Studios' External Development team.
In an interview with Famitsu [Japanese], PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst, and Housemarque co-founder and managing director Ilari Kuittinen revealed that the studio is going to expand over the coming months.
Acquisition talks, according to Hulst, started early in 2020, but were put on hold while the team worked on finishing Returnal, which shipped in April this year. As for the studio's next game, Ilari hinted that it may go "beyond" Returnal, though there's likely some nuance to his quote lost in translation.
