Expect more virtual concerts as Fortnite adds the UK's iconic London O2 arena
Epic Games is adding London's iconic O2 venue – formerly the Millenium Dome – to Fortnite ahead of a week of gigs that'll take place inside the game.
You may recognize the London O2 from any number of things – the opening shot of Eastenders, background shots in The Great British Sewing Bee, your window as you fly into London City Airport – and now you're going to have another reference point: Fortnite.
The famous tensile building has been recreated in Fortnite Creative and will arrive brimming with secrets and a packed-out list of gigs you'll be able to attend in-game, too.
"This week-long celebration of the world’s most popular entertainment venue will culminate with a unique set by Leicester band Easy Life, who will virtually perform six tracks from their debut album ‘life’s a beach’," says 02.
All you need to do is enter the Island Code: 2500-3882-9781 in Fortnite Creative to visit the in-game representation of the 02.
The gig will take place on June 24 at 12.30pm PT / 3.30pm EST / 8.30pm BST and will be available to watch via replay until midnight on Sunday. You can watch it on Easy Life's YouTube channel, too.
Easy Life has created an exclusive lobby tack for Fortnite, and you can unlock that simply by attending the Creative island whilst it's available.
“Being the first UK act to ever perform in Fortnite Creative, and for that performance to take place inside a venue as iconic as The O2, is truly humbling,” Easy Life frontman Murray Matravers explained. “We’re all huge gamers in the band so getting the chance to appear in a game this popular is a childhood dream come true.”
During the show, gamers will be transported to six unique worlds, each inspired by a different track from ‘life’s a beach’ – so you can expect a spectacle.
These events reach a wide audience; Fortnite’s DJ Marshmello concert was broadcast live and watched by more than 10 million players, and the Travis Scott partnership was almost as popular, too.
