I'm ready to put hundreds of hours into Ubisoft's Riders Republic
This extreme sports mash-up looks like it has the ingredients needed to get me hooked.
Riders Republic is Ubisoft's latest effort at combining extreme sports with a large community. This time we're getting snowboarding, downhill biking, and wingsuit flying, along with various variations on those in a variety of event types that will cater to racing fans or trick show-offs. I saw a behind-closed-doors presentation and came away keen to get my hands on the full game. Check out gameplay footage and listen to my thoughts in the video preview below.
So there you have it. Whether you want racing, tricks, exploration, group hangs, or are just in it for the constant trickle of rewards, Riders Republic seems to have something for everyone. As I said in the video, how the game holds up online in its 50+ player races will be interesting to see.
As someone who put far too many hours into Ubisoft's online racing game, The Crew, I'm probably bang-on prime audience for Riders Republic. The Crew had its issues, but Ubisoft stuck with it and in the end the game saw many improvements over its lifespan. I wouldn't expect anything less when it comes to support for this.
With a September 2 release date across all major platforms (not Switch), Ubisoft might find itself with a nice window to get people onboard before the holiday season heavy hitters steamroller through.
