Far Cry 6 won't bring back Arcade Mode or the map editor
Far Cry 6 will be the first mainline game to buck the trend of having a level editor.
One of the lesser known features of Far Cry games has been the game's Arcade Mode, which includes suite of map and mission creation tools, and typically a browser for the wider community to find and play those creations. Far Cry 6, however, won't be brining this back.
Following last week's Far Cry 6 gameplay reveal, several of the game's creative leads took to Reddit to host an AMA. As you might expect, the team answered a whole bunch of questions from fans.
Among the reveals made in the AMA (via PC Gamer) is that Far Cry 6 will not bring back the beloved Arcade Mode, not at launch nor later down the line.
"Removing this mode from our plan was a difficult decision, but allowed us to focus our efforts on the main campaign, transporting players into the heart of a modern-day guerrilla revolution," said game director Alexandre Letendre.
Letendre also confirmed that the weapon tier system introduced in Far Cry: New Dawn will not be making a return in Far Cry 6. Many assumed that the quasi-loot system was being trialled in New Dawn for its eventual conclusion in the next mainline Far Cry. It was seen as Ubisoft inserting RPG mechanics into its other big franchise, following their success in Assassin's Creed.
What you are going to find in Far Cry 6 from previous games are the grappling hook and the wingsuit, two items that that make it easy to navigate the game's world, particularly considering the increased verticality of Yara within its metropolitan areas.
Interestingly, while the companion system does return in Far Cry 6 - as seen in the recent trailer - it's going to just be limited to animals. World director Benjamin Hall, however, said that you may be joined by NPCs and other random AI companions along the way, you just won't be able to recruit them permanently like in Far Cry 5.
