Ex-CD Project Red devs' dark fantasy city-building game Gord gets its first trailer
If you like your city-builders based on dark fantasy and inspired by Slavic folklore, you're going to love Gord.
The recently-announced game is being developed by Covenant, a new Polish game studio founded by ex-CD Projekt Red and 11-Bit Studios producer Stan Just. That explains the Frostpunk vibes, then
The game combines elements of city-building, survival, and strategy all into one neat package. Like a standard city-builder, Gord asks you to grow your settlement over time, fending off external threats and completing quests to bolster your civilization. It deviates from the norm in some places though: making you kill mythical beasts to fulfill the single-player narrative, Witcher-style, for one.
Check out the trailer below.
One of the more interesting elements of the game seems inspired by the likes of Darkest Dungeon; a large part of the survival mechanic woven into your population's well-being is an insanity gauge: you're going to want to do everything in your power to keep your people sane, otherwise, very bad things might start to happen.
A healthy mix of fortifying your walls and sending your best and brightest out on raids should help, then. There's a wealth of customization options that allow you to cater for your playstyle, and these can be tinkered with at the outset of a new game – meaning the difficulty and nature of the world you need to survive in can be custom-built to your desires. Not bad.
Covenant plans on releasing Gord in 2022, and promises more news on the intriguing title soon. To learn more, you can check out on the Gord website and the Steam page.
