Laid-back metal detecting romance game, The Magnificent Trufflepigs, coming to PC and Switch this summer

The Magnificent Trufflepigs is a unique metal-detecting narrative adventure game from the lead designer of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

The newly announced game – which is a collaboration between ex-The Chinese Room developer Andrew Crawshaw and his new studio, Thunkd, and publisher AMC Games – takes place on an English farm where you're tasked with uncovering buried treasures and chatting to your friends via walkie-talkie.

The game is brought to life with an all-star cast, too: you play Adam (voiced by Arthur Darvill, who you may recognize from Dr Who), and you'll be chatting with Beth (played by Luci Fish). Check out the game's first teaser trailer below.

Immediately, we're getting Firewatch vibes from this – a seemingly easy-going, laid-back game with a hint of something not-quite-right brooding underneath.

"A first-person, romantic, metal-detecting game, The Magnificent Trufflepigs has players taking the role of Adam, a sharp-witted but compassionate man returning to his childhood village of Stanning," reads a description of the game from its press release.

"There he joins a woman named Beth (voiced by Luci Fish of Safe House and Another Eden) on her mission to unearth a local treasure. But all is not as it seems, and players will have to choose how Adam responds as cracks begin to appear in Beth’s fairy tale plans."

Apparently, the game’s story revolves around Beth’s attempt to rekindle a childhood sense of adventure. Many years ago, she found an earring while metal-detecting on a local farm – this discovery made her feel alive, and brought her five minutes of fame, to boot. Now Adam has been roped in to try and find the other, matching earring. But in searching for this treasure the duo 'dig up much more than they bargained for'.

Colour us intrigued.

The Magnificent Trufflepigs hits Steam and Nintendo Switch in early summer 2021. You can check out its Steam page at the link.
