Valheim has sold 4 million copies in three weeks
Viking survival title shifted 1 million units in five days
In just 21 days, Iron Gate's Valheim has sold more than 4 million copies.
That's according to developer Iron Gate Studio and publisher Coffee Stain, who also called out the Viking Early Access title has hitting a peak concurrent user figure of 500,000 people on Steam.
In fact, it's apparently one of just a handful of games to reach this milestone, sitting alongside blockbusters like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds and Cyberpunk 2077.
“I don't think I have really had time to contemplate it," Iron Gate CEO Richard Svensson said.
"I know that players like the game a lot, but at the same time I think that I can make something even better in the future. I'm looking forward to adding more content to the game, especially working on the remaining biomes. Our current roadmap only reaches the next biome and we hope to have it done by the end of the year, but it might very well take longer depending on how smooth the development will be. I really don't want to stress the development, that never ends well."
Coffee Stain Publishing boss Albert Säfstrom added: “I was describing Valheim to a friend over a year ago as a game that made me feel how I felt when I fell in love in games for the first time. Up until three weeks ago I thought this was a unique connection I alone had with Valheim. Seeing the incredible reception from players in these past weeks has made me realise that Valheim is something truly special, not only for me, but for more players than I could have imagined.”
Hitting four million copies sold is just the latest commercial milestone for Valheim. Within a week of launch, the Viking-themed title had sold more 1 million copies, before smashing 2 million in less than a fortnight. By its 16th day on the market, the game had sold 3 million units.
